สันติสุขแบบพระเยซูเจ้า

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid."

We have said many times before in these homilies, quoting St. Thomas Aquinas, that peace is the tranquility of order. Everything is in its proper place. There is no chaos or disturbance. Jesus tells us in the Gospel selection for today that he is the only real source of this peace. How do we arrive at this true peace? I know only one answer to that question: by surrendering to the Lord, by putting him in control of my life, by letting go and letting God. This is well stated in the 3rd Step of the 12 Steps: We made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him. The word decision comes from the Latin word, decidere, and means to cut off, to cut away.

In other words, in order to surrender to God we must cut away, cut out, what is standing in the way, blocking my way, from turning my will and life over to God. I must cut away my pride, my over-confidence in myself.

The truth of the matter is that I can't be in control of my life, I can't be in charge, and arrive at the peace I desire.Jesus, help me to make the decision to surrender my life to you. It means letting go with both hands and falling into your hands. It is hard to let go when I know I will fall. Jesus, help me!

God Bless you.
